Drew Gordon, the elder brother of Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon, tragically lost his life in a car accident in Portland, Oregon, as confirmed by his agent, Calvin Andrews, to ESPN late Thursday. Gordon was 33 years old.
A distinguished basketball player in his own right, Gordon commenced his collegiate journey at UCLA, turning down offers from esteemed programs like Duke, North Carolina, and Arizona. Despite enjoying two successful seasons as a Bruin, Gordon opted to transfer to New Mexico for his junior year. He maintained impressive averages of at least 13 points and 10 rebounds per game in each of his two seasons as a Lobo, drawing attention from NBA scouts.
Although undrafted in 2012, Gordon showcased his skills with the Dallas Mavericks during Summer League. Subsequently, he navigated through various foreign leagues and the G League before securing a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, his sole NBA team. He appeared in nine games for the 76ers during the 2014-15 season before being waived in December.
Following his NBA stint, Gordon continued his professional basketball career for nearly a decade, predominantly overseas. A notable achievement during his time abroad was being named an All-Star in France in 2015. Gordon concluded his basketball journey in 2023 upon retirement.
